You Can't Pour From An Empty Cup

Lately, I’ve been feeling a little burnt out. (Actually, a lot burnt out.)
I’ve been putting so much of my time and energy into helping others, being as available and accessible as possible, studying, cooking, cleaning, learning, teaching, and pouring my heart into all of these amazing side projects, that I’ve barely had any time to step back and think - how am I doing, really?
But, isn’t that often the case?
How many of us put ourselves - our hopes, our dreams, and our desires - on the back-burner so that we can give our time and energy to others?
How many of us forget about the little things - like self care and personal maintenance - because we’re constantly bombarding ourselves with the next task or project on the list?
How many of us rid ourselves of the opportunity to let loose & have a little fun because we’re always ‘too busy’ to take the time off?
Remember - you can’t pour from an empty cup.
If we keep pouring our energy into other sources (others/our job/that mile-long “to-do” list, there will ALWAYS come a time where we won’t have any energy left. And what good are we to whatever we’re trying to accomplish if we can’t even take care of ourselves in the process?
So, I’m challenging myself - and anyone else who wants to join me! - to do ONE amazing thing for yourself each day.
Spend the night in watching your favourite old movies. Drink wine in your pyjamas. Buy yourself flowers. Get pampered at the spa. Put on a face mask. Paint your nails. Go out for dinner with the girls. Get all dressed up. Do some yoga. Paint. Sing. Dance. Play.
That “to-do” list will always be waiting when you get back. (And, truthfully, you’ll get things done much faster and more efficiently after pouring some energy back into yourself for a change.)
Who’s with me on this challenge!?
